Google Assistant at Google I/O ’18
For past 3 days (May 8, May 9, May 10), Google led their most anticipated event I/O ’18 and made a huge impression on the user’s, developers, designers, reviewers all around the world.
It all lighted with the keynote from CEO Mr.Sundar Pichai. There were lots of announcements but in this article, we are going to explore on Google Assistant.
Sundar Kicked off his session by demonstrating what Google Assistant is going to do in its upcoming version for Android phones. Yes, they had launched Google Assistant in 2016 along with Allo app, where it is integrated as a service but now it was available as a sole service. Moreover, it had got a lot better improvements and helping to do tasks easier.
The most important part of Assistant is it is completely AI-powered. So it is capable of learning your routine tasks and implement themselves.
If you keep booking tickets every weekend to a specific location, then it learns from your streams and does it for you. Yaas thas a time-saving functionality
This time Google engineers have done a vigorous job by implementing NLP (Natural Language Processing) to Assistant. Sundar showcased the working of NLP powered assistant by making schedules with salon and restaurant. The demonstration was gone well and mesmerised millions
Google assistant became more conversational with the help of AI and Wavenet technologies applied to it, Assistant serves its conversation with 6 different voices and more count on voice samples is expected soon.
He also stated that they have been working on an AI-powered automatic voice calling system for past years and they were gonna to trumpet it soon. This tech was named as Google Duplex, It could be a massive breakthrough in the market and will be a better replacement for Chatbots. Duplex service is expected as a paid or premium service. It could help Business organizations to provide customer support in an astonishing way.
Additionally, Google Action platform for Google assistant was released this could be used to extend the functionality of Assistant by customizing it. Google has also published a tutorial on code labs and made sample source code available on GitHub.
Google Assistant is gonna to be blended with Google maps so that one can use the phone without taking hands out of steering to make calls or to text someone or to play music while driving.

- Families have listened to over 130,000 hours of children’s stories on the Assistant in the last two months alone
- We’re rolling out Multiple Actions so the Google Assistant can understand more complex queries like: “What’s the weather like in New York and in Austin?”
